ATHENS — Ohio did just about everything right in the first half of the NCAA Tournament Play-In Game. Sadly, the second half was not more of the same in the Bobcats contest against Richmond and the outcome was a 2-1 loss to the Spiders.

Ohio (12-9) took the lead just 58 seconds into the game when Katelyn Shelley connected with a Paige Herr pass and fired home. That goal gave the Bobcats the momentum and put all the pressure on Richmond (14-8).

"We started the game really well," Ohio coach Neil Macmillan said. "I don't think we started a game that well all year."

After Ohio's quick score though, the Bobcats offense became stagnant and Richmond bounced back right after the break.

Sarah Blythe-Wood tied the game 46 seconds into the second half and then Dani Pycroft scored the winning goal that put Richmond through to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

"Being scored on in the first 50 seconds was clearly a big blow for our team," said Richmond's coach, Gina Lucido. "We were really flat in the first half, but at halftime, we were able to take a good hard look at what our season was going to come down to."

Ohio finishes the year with 12 wins, which is the sixth most in school history. Shelley also finishes the year with 14 assists, which ties her for the most in a season in Bobcats history.
