CINCINNATI — After an ugly weekend sweep at the hands of Ball State, Miami was looking for a little redemption. A short road trip to Xavier proved to be just what the RedHawks needed.

Miami teed off on the Musketeers pitching early, pulling out to a 5-1 lead and then watching its pitching staff hold on for a 5-3 win.

Miami's pitching kept the Musketeers at bay.

"It's a positive, especially going into a MAC weekend, to see our pitchers bounce back and show some resiliency," Miami catcher Adam Weisenburger said. "Hopefully they'll be successful this weekend."

Jon Edgington, a Cincinnati native, returned home to belt out a pair of doubles for the RedHawks. He also knocked in two teammates and Weisenburger added two more RBI.

Ryan Kaup knocked in Miami's first run of the game in the second inning, bringing Weisenburger home. One inning later, Weisenburger would add more damage, with a single to right field that brought two runners home and gave the RedHawks an early 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Xavier (7-21) grabbed a run back but Edginton came out in the fourth and hit a two-run double to give Miami (12-15) the cushion that it would need to win.

The Musketeers scored two runs in the seventh before Jordan Jankowski came on to shut the door and earn his fifth save of the season.
