Sudbury, Ontario - For any recent high school graduate, that final summer before going off to college should be about

enjoyment. The goal for many young men and women that are heading off to collegiate campuses this fall is to make this a

summer that they'll remember for the rest of their lives.

Incoming Kent State golfer Corey Conners is certainly doing that. In June, the soon-to-be freshman helped his home nation

of Canada capture third place in the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup. Then, he came home to win the Investors Group Ontario

Amateur Championship. Not only that, but he did it by setting new course record of 65 in the final round at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club.

Just to make one final topper, after posting that 65, Conners capped off the win by beating University of Illinois alumnus

Matt Hoffman in a two-hole playoff.

"After how I played in Japan, I knew I would be capable of winning this tournament," Conners said. "I got off to a really

good start this morning, and after I chipped in for birdie on the 14th, I just told myself to make sure I got into the

clubhouse with the lowest possible score. I just kept making birdies."

Conners and Hoffman each had a chance to claim the title on the first playoff hole. However, both golfers missed six-foot

putts to force a second bonus hole on the par 5 first hole. Conners was helped when Hoffman found himself mired in a

bunker, but Conners still had to convert a short birdie putt to claim the title.

"This is a huge accomplishment for me, for sure," Conners said. "It doesn't get much bigger than this in amateur golf."

Two of Conners' KSU teammates also competed in the event. Mackenzie Hughes wrapped up a third place finish and last

season's MAC Player of the Year, Brett Cairns, had a ninth place showing.
