KENT- Even though the money is still being discussed, Kent State is assured of one thing. Its very successful baseball coach isn't going anywhere.

On Tuesday, Kent State announced that Scott Stricklin accepted a contract extension that will keep him at his alma mater through the 2014 season.

"We are pleased and excited to keep a coach of Scott's character and talent on board through 2014," KSU athletic director Joel Nielsen said. "Scott's dedication and commitment to his alma mater are tremendous and the results on the field bear that out. What we've also come to learn over the past few weeks is that the support for Scott and Kent State baseball from alums and friends of the program is strong and unwavering."

Stricklin has guided Kent State to four MAC East titles in the past five seasons. The Golden Flashes have also made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament and won 43 games in 2009. That win total was the third most in KSU history.

Prior to his coaching days, Stricklin was a stand-out catcher for the Golden Flashes. He lettered three times for KSU and was named All-MAC in 1992 and 1993. After his collegiate days ended, Stricklin spent five years playing in the minor leagues, retiring in 1998.

"I'm very excited to be staying at Kent State," Stricklin said. "Being the head coach at my alma mater is very special to me and my entire family."

"We have all worked very hard to build a successful program on the playing field and in the classroom, and we look forward to continuing our championship tradition here at Kent State."

Also earning an extension was KSU associate head coach / pitching coach Mike Birbeck, who was also extended until 2014. Also returning to the Kent State staff is Scott Daeley, who is the assistant coach.
